bubbl.us is a simple and free web application that lets you brainstorm online. Mind mapping is a good tool for visual and kinesthetic learners. Visual learners benefit from associating ideas and concepts with images. Kinesthetic learners learn well by physically drawing their ideas.
Students could working in groups on major projects to mind map their ideas prior to beginning the project. Teacher planning a unit of study could display the map for students to see the connections and to build on them as the learning progresses.
The following graphic was made by simply typing in some ideas. Ideas on the same level have the same colours. Bubbl.us allows the map to be exported to a .jpeg file so that the brainstorming map could be embedded in a blog post, wiki, or word processing document. The mindmap can also be printed as a review tool.
