I have noticed that if you have Windows XP, it doesn't seem to want to let you in. If you are in this boat, when it asks for your username, put academus\ in front of it. So John Smith would put academus\smithj for a username.
Another troubleshooting item, if it still doesn't work - in Internet Explorer, click "Tools", then "Internet Options", then click on the "Connections" tab, and on the "LAN Settings" button.
When you see this box, make sure that all of the boxes are unchecked. Then keep clicking OK until all of the boxes are gone. Then try to access the site again.
