Wildlife Management

Figured out how to measure a tree

Just gotta remember best at 45 degrees

You can also watch it grow from the day of its birth

By grabbin that tape and checking its girth

And if you can find a way to get into it's core

Just count up the rings and tally a score

The Wildlife Management course provides students the opportunity to examine issues related to wildlife through classroom and weekly field trips.  The opportunity for experiential (hands-on) learning is highlighted by visits to:

  • Prince Albert National Park (3 full day trips)

  • Brightwater Environmental Center (3 half day trips)

  • Beaver Creek Conservation Area

  • Meewasin Valley Authority

Some of the outdoor activities/workshops include:

  • Brightwater Grassland Ecosystem

  • Predator/Prey Relationships

  • Black Bear and Elk Human Conflict Management

  • Forest Fire Ecology

  • Water Ecology

  • Several hikes (ie: Boundary Bog Trail)

  • Guest speakers (Conservation Officer, Saskatoon Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited . . .)

I like Wildlife Management because you're outdoors.  It's more hands on; it beats being in a classroom.

I like being outside better.  Not everybody gets opportunities to go up north to Waskesiu!
